What This Service Does

Indiana Solar Quotes is not a solar installation company. We’re a connection service: you tell us a bit about your home, and we pass your information along to solar providers who serve your area so they can follow up with real numbers. Any quote, appointment, or contract happens directly between you and that provider — we don’t install anything and we don’t set anyone’s pricing.

Why Indiana Homeowners Are Looking at Solar

Electricity Rates

Retail electricity rates in Indiana run well above the “excess generation” credit rate most new solar owners now receive — which makes system sizing decisions matter more than they used to.

Home Value

The added value from a solar installation is exempt from property tax in Indiana, and some buyers view an existing system as a plus.

Utility Differences

How your exported solar power gets credited depends heavily on which utility serves you — see below, the differences are larger than in most states.

Changing Incentives

Both the federal tax credit and Indiana’s net metering rules have changed in recent years (see below).

An Important 2026 Update Before You Get Quotes

The federal residential solar tax credit (the 30% credit under Section 25D) ended for homeowner-owned systems installed after December 31, 2025. Indiana does not have a state income tax credit for solar, though property tax and sales tax exemptions remain in effect for qualifying systems and equipment.

Separately, and specific to Indiana: a 2017 state law phased out traditional net metering. Since 2022, the state’s five largest utilities no longer accept new net metering customers — new systems are instead enrolled in an “Excess Distributed Generation” program that pays substantially less for exported power than the old net metering rate did. See our full Indiana Solar Incentives & Tax Credits page for both changes, sourced and dated.

Which Utility You’re On Matters More in Indiana

Unlike many states, Indiana’s five largest utilities don’t all pay the same for exported solar power. Four of them — AES Indiana, CenterPoint, Duke Energy Indiana, and Indiana Michigan Power — use an “Excess Distributed Generation” rate tied to wholesale electricity prices, typically a few cents per kWh. NIPSCO runs a separate feed-in tariff program that has paid meaningfully more per kWh for qualifying systems. Full detail: Indiana Net Metering & Excess Distributed Generation.

What Affects Solar Cost in Indiana

Solar system pricing depends on system size, equipment, and the installer you choose — we don’t set or guarantee pricing. In general, cost is driven by:

  • System size (kW) needed to offset your typical usage — Indiana’s average system size tends to run larger than many states
  • Equipment tier (panel and inverter brand/quality)
  • Roof condition and any electrical panel upgrades needed
  • Which utility serves you, since that affects how exported power is credited (see above)
  • Whether you buy, finance with a loan, or use a lease/PPA
